A "broken shift" occurs when you work two or more shifts during a twelve hour period with unpaid breaks in between. This occurs quite commonly at Lively as many helpers prefer to schedule their sessions on the same day.
Our payroll system will automatically calculate when you have worked a broken shift and provide you with the following allowance for each twelve-hour period.
When you have one unpaid break: $20.82
When you have two unpaid breaks: $27.56
Example
On Tuesday, Ai works at a community tech help session from 9am–12pm, and then has an at-home member session from 3–5pm that afternoon. As she is a casual employee, she will not be paid between 12pm and 3pm. In addition to her wages for that day, she will be paid an additional $20.82 in recognition of the single unpaid break between her two shifts.
On Friday, she works with 3 members, from 9–11am, 12–2pm, and 2:30–4:30pm. She therefore has TWO unpaid breaks from 11am–12pm and 2–2:30pm. In addition to her wages for that day, she will be paid an additional $27.56 in recognition of these unpaid breaks.
In total, she will earn a broken shift allowance of $48.38 for these two days.
Lively pays you a travel allowance (‘mileage’) of $1.05 per km travelled if you need to transport a member during a session.
Before transporting a member, ensure this is listed on their request, and review the referring organisation’s profile for any guidance on trip length and permissions. If you have mileage agreed, then you may add the KMs to your timesheet for the session.
