Starting your session
Community Tech Help
Community Tech Help
For the Tech Help Workshop, you will have 30 minutes at the beginning of each session to arrive, meet the team and set up. However, for 1:1 Friendly Tech Help and Tech Help Pop-Up, you will begin working with members directly from the beginning of your session.
If you are running late, please call one of the helper team as soon as possible so they can inform relevant onsite staff.
When you arrive at a community tech session, it's important that you do the following:
Check in to the session using your Lively app.
Give a friendly hello to the library staff and inform them you are from Lively for the tech help session. They will show you to the room where you will be working.
Ensure you ask for the WiFi password for the venue.
Tech Help Workshop only:
Have a short discussion with your team members to divide up who will be presenting which section/s. You can do this as you like, but we recommend rotating the positions from week to week, with these as suggested roles:
Timekeeper/room set-up/signing in attendees
Presenter 1
Presenter 2/signing in attendees
Connect one person's laptop to the projector to display the relevant presentation for that week, and ensure tables are set up so the presentation is visible. Make sure all is in place before the first members start arriving.
As participants arrive, be sure always to greet them and make them welcome! Remember that they may be feeling a bit nervous or intimidated about seeking support with technology.
As you welcome new people, it is important that you help them sign in for the session. You can do this via your Lively app by following these steps:
Open the session detail screen in your app
Hit the button to 'Log attendance' for that session.
You will create a list of attendees for that session. To do so, you can select the attendee's name from the dropdown menu of past attendees or, if they haven't attended before, choose to 'Create attendee'. You will need to enter:
Full name
Age range
Email address
Phone
Postcode
Gender
Language spoken at home
Ask participants to scan the QR code to complete a "Getting started" survey to get a sense of their skills and confidence starting out. The survey to which they are directed may vary depending on our arrangements with the partner funding the program.
When you are providing 1:1 Friendly Tech Help (with bookable slots), you will need to make sure you do this at the beginning of each new time slot for participants.
